I am always on the lookout for ways to keep my hair hydrated and shiny, that’s why I thought it was super important to share my ways on how to keep your fall hair Instagram worthy. Instagram worthy hair is not just about a great cut, being on trend with color, or knowing how to rock the top knot (which is very important I have to say). Having great hair really comes down to the health of your hair. This becomes even more important when the fall and winter months roll around and your hair begins to look a little sad and dry.

Firstly, hair health is not just about what you put on your hair, but what you put in your body. In other words it starts from the inside out. Optimum health during the fall and winter months can be a challenge. Since Thanksgiving and the holidays are times where people eat their faces off and indulge in sweets and shit that’s just plain awful for you (oh, and did I mention the overlowing booze?). So during those months it’s even more important for your hair to supplement with good fats and proteins in your diet. The main nutrients that you want to make sure your including in your diet, especially during the cold months, are the following:

  1. Iron- Spinach, almonds,and legumes
  2. Vitamin C- Berries and citrus
  3. Zinc- Wheat germ and egg yolk
  4. Biotin- Oats, carrots, and brown rice
  5. Omega-3- Fish, flax, and nuts
  6. Protein- Broccoli, dairy, and eggs

Secondly, if you want to know how to keep your fall hair Instagram worthy, it’s all about the deep conditioning hair masks if . I don’t tend to use the ones you buy in the hair care aisle, I prefer to use the ones that are food friendly (meaning I literally make them out of food). I use coconut oil. Coconut oil is a fucking super food and is amazing for so many different reasons. One of those reasons just happens to be keeping your hair silky, shiny, and hydrated. Search on Pinterest for some coconut oil and food based hair masks and see which ones work the best for your hair type.

Lastly, to save your hair through the driest months of the year, limiting the amount of times you wash your hair, as well as apply heat (i.e. blow dryer, flat iron, a hot guy whispering sweet nothings in your ear, etc), will save your hair from unwanted torment. Utilize dry shampoo as much as possible. I really like Kevin Murphy’s dry shampoo and his Hydrate Me Shampoo which you can find here. I also like DryBar’s dry shampoo (not as eco friendly as Kevin Murphy, but another good option).
