You’ve heard it over and over… denim on denim… silver… the 90’s. The same trends repeating season after season are old news. So what’s the new trends that will be taking over the colder months to come? What are the must have pieces that will be a necessity in your wardrobe? And what are the fresh fashion finds that I will be rocking (post baby) in the upcoming months.

Well read on and I’ll tell you…

  1. Lamé Lamé Lamé-

Even though the 90’s have made a feverish return, this fall season we can’t discount the robot loving, big hair wearing, blue eyeshadow rocking trends of the 80’s. Lamé will be making a huge comeback in both its original form and reinvented silhouettes.

You’ll be seeing colorful lamé leggings worn both as pants and as layering tools under handkerchief hemmed dresses or worn with statement tops. My fave way to wear lamé is full out. Rocking a handkerchief hemmed lamé dress is a show stopper and perfect way to get noticed on your next night out.

2.  The Checkered Blazer

Along with everything checkered making it’s way into your closet for fall, the checkered blazer will definitely be the standout piece. Styling it with skinny denim and belted as a top or over a maxi black floral printed dress, the checkered blazer is one that has major staying power. With this piece, I have one word of advice: INVEST. This is a piece you will have in your closet until the end of time, so make sure it is well made so it has a chance to do so!

3. Tonal Dressing

I am a sucker for the ease of styling tonal dressing. Choosing one shade, whether that be a statement yellow or a more subdued chocolate, and dressing from top to bottom has chic written all over it. It’s high fashion dum dum dressing and I love it. The only key tip to pay attention to with tonal dressing is utilizing different textures throughout the look. Pairing a soft blue chenille sweater with patchwork denim, for example, breaks up the look and keeps you from looking like the cookie monster.

4. Cowboy Couture

We’ve all seen the big buckle cowboy belts come and go in the last few seasons, and even though they are still making their way on the waists of some of the fashion elite, I think that the reinvention of this style is all about footwear. The cowboy boot is everything now. From pearly white to traffic stopping red, the cowboy boot now has an elevated feel and must be dressed accordingly. To create a high fashion look, it’s all about the accessories. Structured and ladylike accessories will keep the look elevated and out of the realm of Ms. Daisy Duke.

5. Oui Oui to the Beret

YASSSSSSSS! I am so glad the beret is making it’s way back and is such an easily styled accessory. Pick any color of the rainbow, the world is your oyster. Whether styled with oversized denim and a logo tee or with an updated slip dress, the beret needs to find it’s way into your closet for fall/winter.
