- Lean on other moms~ No one else knows your pain and exhaustion like fellow moms. When they graciously offer to help, put your big girl pants on and TAKE IT. You don’t need to be the girl that says “Oh, I’m ok but thank you”. NO! Take the help with open arms and basque in your 30-60 minutes of freedom.
- Take time for yourself~ Now that you have a few minutes to yourself, and I do mean minutes, treat yo self girl. Get a pedicure, take a long shower, or go workout. Take this time solely for yourself with no interruptions. Don’t check your phone every 6 seconds, don’t constantly check in on the baby, all will be fine. Stay present and enjoy these few moments when you are truly alone.
- Take a shower~ What used to be a simple task has now turned into a luxury. Take time out of your day to bathe your lady parts. Not only will you stop smelling like a yak, but will perk you up after a long night of diaper changes. So do whatever it takes to makes this happen (i.e. take the baby in the bathroom with you, call your family or friends over to watch the little one for 15 minutes, etc). Just do it!
- Make a nest~ This is when feeding is involved. Whether your breastfeeding or bottle feeding, when your a new mom, feeding somehow is incapacitating and makes you immobile (just an FYI, eventually you will be able feed, dry your hair, while cooking dinner all at the same time). Create a nest around you when it’s feeding time, which is pretty much all the time. This means get all of what you may need for the next hour (or 2 or 3 hours). Water, snacks, phone charger, phone, remote control, computer, etc, etc, will all come in handy when parked on the couch for the next millennium.
