Here is the original pic I took off of my phone. The blues, greens, yellows, and reds don’t work with the aesthetic of my feed so first off, I will use Lightroom to desaturate these colors
After desaturating the warmer colors in the picture, I realize that the floor is still too warm, so I will open the pic in the Snapseed app. I will go to the “Brush” tool, select “Temperature” and select the temp to be -10. I will then color the ground until it all looks like a shade of blue. Sidetone: I will only do this to outdoor backgrounds and the like. I won’t do this with pieces of clothing or actual decor of a place as I try to retain the integrity of the location or garment.
I will take the photo back in to Lightroom and desaturate all of the blue so that it pulls the blue out of the pic. If it doesn’t pull all of the blue out the first time, I will save the image, then re-open that image again in Lightroom and desaturate the blue again. On this pic I did it twice, because as you can see on the image below, the ground still looks a little blue. Once you desaturate the blue, what’s left behind is clean and cool grey color.
It also worked for the sky too. I love blue skies in reality, but in my pics I HATE THEM. Desaturating the blue out of the image allows the sky to be a dark and moody grey.
I will then take the pic to Snapseed again to lighten or darken areas of pic. In this image, I have darkened all of the reflection behind me. I did that to hide the people that were inside the restaurant and to accentuate the cool palm tree that is in the reflection.
Lastly, for my photo editing for Instagram, I will open the pic in Facetune to add details to parts of the photo that have a lot of texture. In this pic, I used the details feature on Annabelle’s coat, the reflection of the palm tree, and my shoes.
The last app that I use all the time is the Planoly app. It has seriously changed the game when it comes to keeping my feed looking consistent, clean, and monochromatic. Along with picking neutral backgrounds, Planoly has helped me keep my feed looking the way I like, cool and moody. The app allows you to put images into your feed without actually posting the image to Instagram.
