I know I did. That’s why I decided to share my learnings and do a post on the top 5 things I learned from the Bloguettes.

- Instagram isn’t king for getting your brand out there: My biggest learning of the workshop was that Instagram isn’t the sure fast way to blow up your blog and get noticed by brands. Yes, it is a great way of exposure and a first impression view of your engagement and following, but there are 2 other amazing ways to get noticed by consumers as well as brands for collaborations. The top 2 social media platforms that I am now concentrating on are Pinterest and Facebook. I never thought to put a ton of effort into these platforms and really just used them so that I could have an extra icon on my blog dashboard. From listening to the Queens of SEO and marketing, I learned the small little steps that can be inputed into your blog that will make your blog more searchable, leading to more traffic to your blog, which in turn makes you more attractive to prospective brands wanting to collaborate.
- Consistency is King: Your brand is everything. Along with that, maintaining your brand is only possible with consistency. If someone’s pictures are dark and moody on Instagram, you wouldn’t expect their pictures to be light, airy, and colorful on their blog, it just wouldn’t make sense. Keeping a consistent aesthetic on every part of your brand will allow your reader and consumer to know what to expect. This will also allow you to attract an authentic audience who will be engaged and be your ride or die followers.
- Have a specific voice: This includes throughout all of your social media platforms. Who you are on your blog, should be the same person you are on Snapchat. Yes, obviously if you’ve seen my blog and my Snapchat, I am way more goofy on the latter. But how I put “myself” into the blog, is through my writing. My writing is laid back, funny, and blunt and that is literally me in a nutshell. They key is to know who you are and stay true to that voice. It’s all about being exactly who you are.
- Create different content for each platform: Clicking the Facebook button so that your Insta post goes on to FB is just not enough anymore. The people that are on Facebook aren’t the same people that are on your Instagram and they are also looking for different content. The people that are scanning their feed on Facebook are looking for personal stories and a “get to know you” kind of post. Where as your Insta following are looking for pretty and eye pleasing photos. You wouldn’t play a horror movie to a bunch of kindergartners, it just wouldn’t go over very well. Apply that analogy when posting content on each platform.
Those were the biggest take aways from the 3 day workshop and I seriously can’t recommend it more. If your thinking about starting a blog for your business, as a business, or just for fun, this workshop will give you the ins and outs of blogging.
